Fright Night

hey guys,

Just wanted to let everyone know about the 2010 Fright Night Film Fest in Louisville, Ky on July 30-August 1. My friends and I have attended the festival for the past 2 years and it's always a lot of fun. The festival is 3 days long, there is a vendor hall with lots of collectibles being sold, there are special guests, for instance last year the guest of honor was Linda Blair, this year it's Roger Corman! One of the coolest things about this festival though is that it is really an independant film festival in the guise of a horror convention. All 3 days are packed with independent film screenings. most of them are bad, but all of them are at least fun.

This year is looking like it will be the best ever. there's going to be a 'Girls of Nightmare on Elm Street' reunion featuring Lisa Wilcox (Alice from parts 4&5) as well as Amanda Wyss (Tina from part 1) and Nancy herself, Heather Langenkamp. There will also be a Night of the Creeps reunion that I'm really excited about, especially because the man himself, Tom Atkins will be there! other guests include the cast of Fright Night, Tyler Mane from 'Rob Zombie's Halloween', Ken Kirzinger who played Jason in Freddy vs Jason and a Dawn of the Dead Reunion.

As if that wasn't enough, there's also always a classic film screening at the Georgetown drive-in. Two years ago they showed an original print of Phantasm and last year they showed an original print of The Shining. They haven't announced what films they will be showing this year yet, but with the guest lineup it can't be bad. so come out and hang with us. I'm going to see if I can't manage to get some interviews for the new website/podcast project I'm working on with my buddy Dakota (who's website you can check out at www.Dakotagraves.com).

Ice Breaker

So when you're in school, on the first day they make you do these things called "ice breakers" so that everyone in the class can feighn interest in everyone else's lives, and in general so you can get to know one another. I'm not gonna do that. However, I figured that since I'm new to this I would write a little intro paragraph about myself, so I can prove my credentials to everyone.

When I was 10 or 11, I caught a special on VH1 about KISS. There I saw Ace Frehley shooting rockets out of his guitar and it was all over, I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. within a month I convinced my Dad to buy me a guitar and sign me up for lessons. for almost 10 years I took guitar lessons from one of the kookiest, most loveable guys in the louisville, KY area, Alan Phelps. During that time, I became obsessed, like so many other Metal fans, with not only the music, but all aspects of Rock and Roll and Heavy Metal culture. When anyone was curious about who wrote a certain song in a band, or why a band broke up, or what album came out when, it was always "Let's ask Corey". Through ought high school, if someone referenced me, another person would always say, "You mean Metal Corey?" I didn't seek out that title, friends and family bestowed it on me.

Although it's a very prominent part of my life, Metal isn't the only thing that I'm passionate about. As I was becoming a teenager, I started getting into horror movies heavily, mostly out of hanging out with my best friend Kenneth. I remember there was one summer that Kenneth and I spent just working our way through our local video store's horror section. every week we would go to what was called Video Vault at the time, and his mom would let him rent 3 or 4 movies and my mom would let me rent 3 or 4 movies. we must have watched close to 200 horror films that summer alone. Anyway, that gave me an appreciation for cheesy, low-budget horror films in particular, which I still love. I still make it my mission to go and see as many horror movies as I can, remake or original, low budget or not, I try and see 'em without being biased. I also frequent several horror conventions in the Kentucky/Ohio area.

So that's a little bit about me. Hopefully I'll have some real stuff to write about soon, and try to remember, I'm not trying to make a living doing this, i'm just doing it for fun, so constructive criticism is welcome, but please save comments like "you suck" for someone else.

Mission Statement

Hi,

my name's Corey, which you most likely already know since you're on this page. So here's the deal, I kinda like Metal and Horror movies, like a lot, so I figured that from time to time i would offer my opinion on the goings on in Metal as well as movies i see, events that i go to, and in general whatever i want to talk about, so deal with it. hopefully you guys like what I do, but if not, just go somewhere else, that's the beautiful thing about the Internet, it's a big place, plenty of room for everyone.

anyways, that's enough for now. see you soon

also, be sure to check out my friend Dakota's blog over at Dakotagraves.com. (if I find out that any of my other friends have blogs I'll be sure to tag them as well, because that's just the kind of guy I am)
